Duc Nguyen

Physiotherapist, B.Sc.PT, MOPPQ,
Certified and Diplomaed McKenzie-MDT

Duc
earned his physiotherapy degree at McGill University in 2009. Ever since, he has specialized in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal problems, a field he is very passionate about. Since his graduation, Duc has accumulated over 700 hours of continuing education to better serve his patients. He has taken various courses in biomechanics, pain science, and manual therapy, but became especially interested in “Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy” (MDT), in which he obtained his Certification Level in 2013.

Ever since Duc started applying the MDT principles, he has seen a marked acceleration in his patients’ recovery. This motivated him to pursue and obtain the Diploma in MDT – the most advanced qualification of this kind in the world. He is amongst the five experts to hold this title in the province of Quebec.

When he is not working in the clinic, Duc likes to stay active by training and practicing martial arts.

Speaks English, French, and Vietnamese.

Michael Dyck

Physiotherapist, B.Sc.PT, MOPPQ,
Certified and Diplomaed McKenzie-MDT

Michael graduated from McGill University in 2009 with a degree in physiotherapy. He then worked in a variety of settings: acute care in hospitals, geriatrics, pediatrics, rheumatology, and convalescence. He eventually started working in his preferred environment: musculoskeletal care.

Michael quickly realized that the McKenzie (MDT) approach provided far superior outcomes, and he pursued the training to become a Credentialed/Certified McKenzie therapist. Following that he pushed his professional development further, enrolling in and successfully completing the McKenzie Diploma Programme — the highest level of training in this approach worldwide.

Outside the clinic, Michael lives a double life — that of a musician. He is a choir director and jazz pianist, which complements well his work as a physiotherapist. He also spends too much time doing theatre improv and playing badminton. Lastly, Michael has a passion for nutrition and offers consultations in this field as well.

Speaks English, French, and Spanish.

Fanny Thiffeault Gagné

Physiotherapist, B.Sc.Kin, M.Sc PT, MOPPQ
Certified McKenzie-MDT

Having developed a passion for the human body and the musculoskeletal system at a young age, Fanny completed a Masters degree in Physiotherapy in 2015 that followed her undergrad studies in Human Kinetics (Kinesiology), both at the University of Ottawa.

Both her desire to offer the best care possible to her patients and her thirst for more knowledge concerning the human body led Fanny towards the Mckenzie approach (Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy). Following levels A, B, C, and D, Fanny has reached the McKenzie-MDT Certification level in 2017.

This significant professional achievement has allowed Fanny to acquire a better comprehension and classification of injuries by leading better interviews, actively listening to patients and using a more specific assessment method. Not only is this approach more effective, it also allows the patients to be more independent from treatments by giving them more autonomy.

Since many of these MDT courses were hosted by Expertise Physio, Fanny got to know the team and quickly realized she agreed with their vision and that she had a lot in common with its members. When she decided to move to Montreal, after completing her studies and beginning a career in the Outaouais region, Fanny did not hesitate and already knew which team she wanted to join.

Beyond her passion for the orthopeadics, Fanny spends most of her time outdoors. She is a big fan of hiking, camping, as well as playing sports like soccer, rock climbing, jogging, swimming, cross country skiing, and more. She also enjoys travelling and cooking.

Fanny has also completed the Sports First Responder Certification and has worked with various sports teams (hockey, football, soccer, gymnastics, and volleyball). Furthermore, she teaches a few lectures a year to future physio assistants at the Ottawa Cité Collégiale.

Speaks English, French, and Spanish.

Youri Laplante –
El Haïli

Physiotherapist, B.Sc.PT, M.Sc PT, MOPPQ
Certified McKenzie-MDT

Before obtaining his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy at McGill University, Youri was equipped with a robust scientific training through his completing a Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Université de Montréal. After many years spent in a research laboratory, it was clear that his dynamism, empathy and contagious smile needed to be put to better use, in a clinical setting. These are the qualities that make him an excellent physiotherapist, dedicated to his patient’s well-being.

Youri discovered the impressive results offered by the McKenzie method during his university training. Today, after having completed the courses given by the McKenzie Institute and successfully passed the certification examination, Youri is proud to make a considerable difference in the life of people suffering from orthopedic conditions by promoting their independence and their ability to treat themselves. Like many satisfied patients, choose Youri and Expertise Physio and you will be in good hands.

Youri spends his free time training, biking, and playing soccer and taking care of his dog. He also has a marked interest in psychology, philosophy, cooking and travelling.
